With the presentation of Patch 10.1 of Dragonflight, several sites have discussed with the developers of the many new features that await us with this one. There is also a lot of new information about the upcoming patch 10.1, which is expected to hit the public test realms this week.

WoW Dragonflight 10.1 Season 2 Patch Notes & Release Date

Dragonflight 10.1 Release Date & Season 2 Start Date

So when will Dragonflight 10.1 and Season 2 be released? Although there is no official release date set for version 10.1, it is expected to arrive sooner than expected along with Aberrus and the Shadowed Crucible, a new raid. Blizzard hopes to have development completed in time to release it when most players are looking for something beyond the current Vault of the Incarnates raid. In terms of a release date, Blizzard plans to have six significant content updates this year, and if 10.1 follows the same release cadence as 10.0.7, which was released eight weeks after the last major update on January 24, we can expect the Embers of Neltharion update to drop on May 16. The release video for journalists also mentioned that Season 2 for PvP rankings, Mythic+ dungeons, and Mythic raiding will be released one week after the content update.

WoW Dragonflight 10.1 Patch Notes - New Contents & Changes in Season 2

It is the first major patch in Dragonflight with another new area and a new raid instance. In addition, there will be numerous other new features and adjustments. Find all the most important information below.

Dragonflight 10.0.1 Class Changes

  • Shadow Priest will get a slight overhaul with Patch 10.1

  • There are other important class changes coming with Patch 10.1

  • A new season provides the opportunity to make important class changes, such as moving talents into trees.

Dragonflight 10.0.1 New Zone - Zaralek Caverns

  • This zone was planned from the very beginning, it is where the story has been taking us all along.

  • We can fly directly from Thaldraszus, the Azure Mountains and Plains of Ohn'ahra to Zaralek Caverns without a loading screen.

  • Zaralek Caverns feels very grand and was designed with dragon riding in mind.

  • Players will be able to use dragon riding in Zaralek Cavern immediately.

  • The effects of the Primalist aspects will be felt in the story.

  • Zaralek has three different biomes:

Sulfur pools and dangerous fumes from the corrosive chemicals are the dumping ground for failed experiments in the Neltharion lab.

The crystal caves have stalagmites and stalactites made of rock and crystal.

The volcanic regions have lava flows, bubbling pools, and twisted towers of hardened lava. This is where the Djaradin live.

The cave is slightly larger than Zereth Mortis.

  • The Niffen is a new friendly mole race that follows their sense of smell, as they have poor eyesight. Players get a new renown lane with them, as well as cave diving, exploration, and snail racing.

  • The Drogbar is back.

  • The Djaradin elders are not friendly.

  • Zaralek Cavern will have new campaign chapters.

Dragonflight 10.1 New Raid: Aberrus, the Shadowy Crucible

  • The raid includes 9 bosses.

  • We will explore Neltharion's secrets and follow Sarkareth as he tries to claim the power he believes is his right.

  • The leaders of the Black Dragonflight will have to deal with Deathwing's legacy and the terrible place where he went insane.

  • The raid includes an Elementium Dragon, Hydras and other enemies that will be revealed soon.

  • The Normal, Heroic and Mythic difficulty levels will launch simultaneously, as feedback on this release schedule has been positive.

Dragonflight 10.1 Mythic+ Dungeons

  • The team is trying to shape the new Mythic+ dungeons around story events and gameplay variety.

  • The four remaining Dragonflight dungeons will be added to the rotation: Brackenfell Lair, Halls of Infusion, Uldaman: Legacy of Tyr, and Neltharus.

  • Four dungeons from previous expansions will also be added to the rotation: Freeport, Deeppool, Vortex Peak, and Neltharion's Hoard.

  • Freeport is a dungeon mentioned in every thread discussing potential dungeons for Season 2, so they had to add it.

  • The team looks at the pool of dungeons as a whole and chooses what damage profiles are needed, what utility is used, etc. They chose the subreddit to round out the pool as it has many fun core gameplay mechanics.

Dragonflight Season 2 Affixes

  • Affixes are still being revised, but the team will share more information soon.

  • There will no longer be a seasonal affix at level 10.

  • There will be no replacement for Donnernd, and it has been withdrawn.

  • The team is also taking a closer look at level 7 affixes. How much of it makes your healer's life more difficult versus allowing players to play through the mechanic?

  • Seasonal affixes were created in Battle for Azeroth when you played the same dungeons for many seasons. These affixes attempted to solve the problem of dungeons appearing to be solved with a certain known path and approach.

  • The diversity problem no longer needs to be solved.

  • A closer look at Brackenfell Cave might even remove specific dungeon mechanics from other Mythic 0 dungeons.

Dragonflight 10.1 Season 2 Item Power

  • When there is an item that stands out, it often becomes a target for players.

  • The team tries to be very careful with item matching after launch.

  • The team has a whole new pool of Mythic+ dungeons with new trinkets and other items.

  • Items give us something to work towards. What is the new thing we want to pursue? It's more exciting than farming the puzzle box again every year.

Dragonflight 10.1 Professions

  • There are new recipes and we acquire the ability to upgrade old items.

Dragonflight 10.1 Item Upgrades

  • New item upgrade revamps coming in 10.1.

  • Dragonflight had upgradeable items and it felt good to have some progress.

  • The team found that there were many different item upgrade systems, all working in slightly different ways. Lots of complexity and stuff for players to contend with.

  • New currencies will be introduced in patch 10.1, including Shadowflame Crests.

  • The new currency will hit the PTR fairly early, as it's a big change and the team wants lots of feedback.

  • Heirloom armor will be scaled up to level 70.

Dragonflight 10.1 Cross-Faction Guilds

  • Cross-faction guilds will be available at launch with patch 10.1 and will be tested on the PTR later this week.

  • This change is in line with the current cross-faction philosophy and the team will take into account how important factions are in the game when making these changes.

  • Factions carry a lot of weight in the story and that will never go away in World of Warcraft.

Dragonflight 10.1 Dragon Riding

  • Dragon riding has received a lot of positive feedback. The team is considering improving it with new glyphs, races, and talents.

  • A new dragon-like sky serpent, new glyphs to learn, and new races to tame are coming.

  • Ground Swarming: New dragon riding skill that allows us to recharge energy while flying close to the ground.

  • There are challenges in implementing all mounts as dragon mounts, such as animations, but the team is looking into this.

Dragonflight 10.1 Revival Catalyst

  • The Revival Catalyst will still be available, but the team has had many conversations about player expectations and their set bonuses.

  • Set bonuses used to be something you had to strive for and take some time. Now they feel necessary.

  • The team is looking for more determination and pitch protection when earning set bonuses, there will be a blog on this topic next week.

Dragonflight 10.1 World Content

  • The Dragon Islands will receive new content.

  • Fyrakk attacks, similar to the currently available Primalist invasions, with new rewards such as armor, weapons, achievements and more.

  • New story content about the Blue Dragonflight, explaining why they have not returned to the Dragon Isles in large numbers.

  • The next chapter of Tyr reforged quests.

  • The team wants us to still have reasons to visit the launch zones.

  • Public events will be updated and new ones added. For example, Fyrakk bathes in molten lava and gets stronger before attacking existing Dragon Flight zones.

  • Some content will be unlocked weekly to fit the context of the raid.

  • The new world boss consists of a duo of Djaradin elders who are not satisfied with the invasion of their homeland.

Dragonflight 10.1 Factions

  • The team wants each faction to have a separate identity while also allowing for cooperation. Horde and Alliance have worked together many times before.

  • Even in Warcraft 3, the two factions worked together to combat the Legion threat.

  • After the Battle for Azeroth, we see some of the factions teaming up.

  • The team still uses conditional quest texts to create unique experiences for each faction.

Dragonflight 10.1 Character Customization

  • There are no significant character customizations in Patch 10.1.

  • Demon Hunters will receive a glyph to cast their own weapon with the Gleven Throw ability.

  • Adding glyphs that modify the visual effects of spells is difficult, as changing them too much can make the ability unrecognizable to other players, especially in PvP.

Dragonflight 10.1 Armor Sets

  • A color of the new set artwork has been introduced. The Priest set appears to have small wings, while the Druid set has many horns and spikes.

  • The outdoor sets for armor, weapons, and mounts are designed in the black dragon flight theme. They look like they could have come from the pitchwing hoard. Players can get different color variants through different activities.

Dragonflight 10.1 Season 2 Storylines

  • With the release of Patch 10.0.7 on March 21, the story will continue with the Incarnates returning to the Forbidden Isle to search for an ancient secret.

  • We will help our Dracthyr friends who have returned to search for survivors and learn more about their fate.

  • This journey will take us deep beneath the Dragon Isles, following the incarnate Fyrakk. He finds allies and power in the cave of Zaralek.

  • We will get a glimpse of how Neltharion became Deathwing.

  • The Dracthyr commander Sarkareth will lead the Sundered Flame to search for their birthright and control of Neltharion's secret facility.

  • Emberthal is looking for a purpose for her people, Ebyssian will help her.

  • We will delve into the past of the Blue Dragonflight with Kalecgos to learn more about its future.

  • The next chapter of the Tyr New Forge storyline will be available.

  • The team will return to the Green Dragonflight and Bronze Dragonflight storylines in future patches.

  • We will revisit Thrall and his role in Horde orcish society in the future, but he is involved in the Orcish Heritage Armor quest.

Dragonflight 10.1 User Interface

  • This patch continues the UI upgrade journey that began with the release of Dragonflight.

  • There are many elements in the user interface that the team would like to review and refresh.

  • Many of the UI changes should be in the PTR build this week.

  • Things like group management, quest tracking, how quests are displayed in-game, many edit mode improvements, and personal resource bars will be updated.
