WoW Classic Season of Discovery BFD DPS Tier List & Ranking

The Blackfathom Deeps is WoW Classic's first-ever 40-player raid, introduced in the Season of Discovery content update. This underwater dungeon in Ashenvale poses a new challenge for max-level players, with mysterious new bosses to tackle and epic loot to acquire. With the addition of runes, talents, spells, and balance changes in Season of Discovery, the DPS landscape has shifted dramatically from vanilla WoW. Some classes have risen to the top as damage-dealing powerhouses, while others still lag and await future improvements.

In this guide, we will analyze each DPS specialization and rank them in tiers from S to D based on their performance in the Blackfathom Deeps raid. We will consider factors like their single target DPS, AOE capabilities, and raid utility when compiling the tier list. The rankings will help give players insight into which classes are dominating and which are struggling early in Season of Discovery.

1. Rogue (S Tier)

Mutilate gives rogues incredible single-target damage. They lack AoE outside of Blade Flurry cooldowns though. Rogues bring utility like crowd control, interrupts, and Exposed Armor debuff. Topping damage meters with Mutilate build. Backstabs and Ambushes hit hard. Poisons add big damage over time effects. Crippling Poison is excellent for kitsing. Controlling mobs well with Sap, Blind, and Evasion tanking.

2. Feral Druid (A Tier)

Put out excellent single-target DPS through bleeds and Shred. No real AoE though outside of Swipe spam. Offer major buffs like Leader of the Pack and combat resurrection. Bleeds and shred provide great sustained damage to bosses. New feral talents like Primal Fury provide combo points and damage boosts. Able to off-tank when needed with strong mitigation abilities.

3. Warlock (A Tier)

With powerful Affliction DoTs and Destruction nukes enhanced by runes like Demonic Tactics, warlocks top the charts for single-target DPS. They also have incredibly strong AoE between Rain of Fire and swappable runes like Lake of Fire. Warlocks bring a ton of utility as well, with options like Ritual of Summoning, Soulstones, Healthstones, interrupts, and more. Affliction spec allows the stacking of powerful DoTs on bosses. Destruction provides burst with Shadow Bolt and conserves mana. Healthstones and Soulstones are major utilities for recovering from wipes.

4. Ret Paladin (A Tier)

Improved single-target damage with new abilities like Crusader Strike. Divine Storm gives them solid AoE capabilities. Blessings and Auras provide great utility. Bursting down priority adds quickly with the Seal/Judgement combo. Improved mana efficiency allowing more consistent damage. Blessings and Auras provide significant raid buffs.

5. Frost Mage (A Tier)

Extremely strong single-target DPS with Fireball or Frostbolt builds. Also, have the best AoE in the game with talents like Improved Blizzard. Mages provide food, decurses, Poly, Slows, and more utility. Strong ranged AoE and kiting with Improved Blizzard and other talents. Fire and Frost spells combined provide both burst and control. Polymorph, Counterspell, and other CC help handle large pulls.

6. Warrior (B Tier)

Decent damage from Whirlwind and Slam. Cleave gives light AoE. Bring debuffs like Sunder Armor and shouts for utility. Reliant on gear scaling. Dual wield Fury relying on auto attacks and debuffs for damage. Needs gear to overcome hit, crit, and threat issues. Rallying Cry and Battle Shout provide nice damage buffs.

7. Hunter (B Tier)

With new abilities like Explosive Shot and runes boosting critical strikes, hunters have the highest single-target DPS currently. Their AoE is lacking with just Multi-Shot. Bring some utility like Misdirect and Tranq Shot. Steady damage with Auto Shot and Aimed Shot. Multi-shot good on AoE. Tranq Shot helps handle enrage effects on some bosses. Trueshot Aura and Misdirect help boost raid damage and control threat.

8. Enhance Shaman (B Tier)

Stormstrike provides strong burst potential on priority targets. Lacking core talents limits sustained damage on long fights. Windfury Totem and other buffs still provide nice utility.

9. Elemental Shaman (B Tier)

Good single target burst with Stormstrike but suffers from mana issues on long fights. Reasonable AoE with Fire Nova totems. Provide some buffs like Windfury Totem. Suffers from mana constraints on long fights currently. Lightning Bolt for burst, Chain Lightning for AoE packs. Spellpower totem is a major boost to casters in raid.

10. Balance Druid (C Tier)

Weak damage output overall, with poor AoE. Innervate and combat rez provide some utility. Moonfire spam is underwhelming damage output. Innervate and combat rez provide utility, but mana is a big limitation. Lacks Moonkin form and important talents for this tier.

11. Fire Mage (C Tier)

High damage spells but very mana-hungry. Combustion is not as impactful yet without crit scaling. Provides ranged AoE help but is limited by mana.

12. Arcane Mage (D Tier)

Without healing interactions, the damage is very poor. Arcane Explosion is usable but inefficient on mana. Provides some slows and spell steal utility.

13. Shadow Priest (D Tier)

Very lackluster single-target damage and no AoE. Will improve later with talents and abilities. The limited utility currently. Very long ramp-up time and no burst capabilities. Lacks essential talents like Vampiric Touch. The only bonus is Shadowform, but mana is a huge constraint.
