PoE 2 Best Map Waystone Modifiers & How To Craft (Dawn of the Hunt)

5/26/2025 4:40:20 PM

Welcome back to our new PoE 2 guide. Here we are going to cover the best Map Waystones and how to craft them fast, focusing on strategies for slamming, filtering, valuing, and selling Waystones, as well as utilizing distillations and understanding the complex interactions with the Atlas. It'll be a little bit more friendly for newer or inexperienced players, but also still deep dive into some of the content to get more in-depth knowledge for us experienced folks who are trying to get better.

How To Craft the Best Waystones Fast in PoE 2?

After having reviewed all of the resources available for understanding Waystones, and then also having slammed 6,336 Tier 15 Waystones in my PoE 2 career, here's the format for what we're going to cover:

  • How to do it fast

  • Being aware of your bad mods

  • Keeping an eye out for the good mods

  • How to slam them and recognize what to use and when

  • How to resell them so that you can profit and recoup some of the investment

As we cover these, we're going to overview distillations, Waystone mods, regex, and how to sort of filter through your maps. We're going to give a nod to juice and what mods actually produce more value, and we're going to focus a little bit on resale value, so you can know which maps need to go into a tab for sale.

1. Best Map Waystone Modifiers To Craft

On every single Waystone that has some type of rarity: magic or rare, if you hold Alt, you’ll see prefixes and suffixes. An uncorrupted Waystone can have six affixes, which include three prefixes and three suffixes. This is important to know, but it is only the starting place.

In general:

  • Prefixes are good

  • Suffixes are bad

That said, suffixes do add Waystone drop chance, so if you're farming Waystones or trying to find keys from citadels, you actually want max suffix maps rather than prefix maps.

On this POE2DB.TW link, all the prefixes and suffixes, and their tiers are listed. You're welcome to review these carefully. But when you slam a lot of maps, you will start to see these and understand them. It's just important to take one quick look so you kind of have a broad purview of what's available out there.

2. Using Vaal Orbs on Waystones

When your Waystone has max prefix and max suffix and you’ve reviewed its values, it's time to discuss what the Vaal Orb does. Vaal Orbs are really powerful and unpredictable on Waystones, and pretty much every Waystone should be Vaal’d in high-end content of the season. Here are the Vaal outcomes for a Waystone and why you should always Vaal:

  1. Nothing happens (25% chance)

  2. Tier changes: Goes up one tier or down one tier (25% chance)

Then, with Waystones, there is a quarter chance that it goes up one tier or down one tier, and this enables you to get the rare Tier 16 Waystones that go up one tier from a Tier 15. It is worth mentioning that when this boost or reduction happens, it can reroll all of the modifiers to new modifiers.

  3. Reforge (6 of same): Locks one side (prefix or suffix), and rolls the other side to match (25% chance)

In one version of a reforge, you have six affixes (3 prefixes and 3 suffixes). It picks one of them to lock. So it's going to lock the three prefix values, for instance. Then it's going to take the other three and flip them to the same set. Example: So if we have a Waystone with 3 prefixes, 3 suffixes, we Vaal: one possibility is that the prefixes get locked and the suffixes get rolled to being 3 new prefixes, and then you have a six prefix map, which can be really, really juicy.

  4. Reforge (10 mods): Locks both prefix and suffix and adds additional mods, up to 10 (25% chance)

The other quarter chance for a reforge is that it locks both of them, it will lock prefix and suffix, and then add additional mods, up to 10 mods total.

In our opinion, the 10-mod outcome is the juiciest, because it interacts with the Atlas in very powerful way, especially the mod that increases the effect of modifiers per modifier. This can be a 10x multiplier in certain situations.

3. Filtering Waystones in Stash with Regex

We also want to point out (and I'll drop a link to this as well) that the Waystone filtering in your stash accepts keywords.

For example:
Typing rarity items shows all rarity maps, and adding experience or other keywords refines the filter.

Some filters are complex, and sometimes it’s better to drag and drop exactly what is wanted.

For instance, to find maps with a Waystone drop chance over 100:

  • Hit check, copy the string, paste it into the filter box, and boom — filtered.

The properties and their values can be enumerated and pasted in, as long as the total character limit is 50. This is very helpful for filtering out giant quads of Waystones that can become overwhelming.

4. Using Distillations to Add Delirium

Distillations (also known as emotions or distillations) come from Delirium. These can be used in various ways throughout the game, and probably more to come. One key usage is that you can distill your maps to add layers of Delirium onto your map.

Basically, you:

  1. Right-click a distillment

  2. It opens up the box

  3. You drop in the map

  4. You put in the distillations

  5. It tells you what it is going to do to that map

Two Key Decisions When Using Distillations:

  1. How delirious to make the map - Deliriousness increases difficulty, sometimes significantly, and increases rewards.

  2. Which modifier to apply - For example, if farming citadels, look for modifiers that are really, really good.

A personal favorite is the one where rare monsters drop lots of loot. Some maps drop with distillation already on them. For example, a map with 44% delirious and modifiers like magic monsters, rare monsters, and unique. Maps with one or two distillations can still take a second or third one. Always check the distillation menu to see if more can be added.

All Deli distillations should appear in the stash. They can be upgraded at the reforging bench, and bought in bulk from Alva.

In the high end, it adds incredible value to fully distill maps that are planned to be run.

5. Practical Example: Slamming Waystones Step by Step

With all that information out of the way, it's time to walk through a few example sets of how to slam Waystones, in what order, and what to do with them.

A little bit of setup: the preferred method is to slam them as they drop. This is highly recommended, but of course, do what works best. Sometimes, Waystones are even slammed within the map while running it, for the sake of time.

Keeping currencies like alchemy, augmentation, regal, and exalt at the bottom of the inventory at all times helps immensely with the efficiency of mapping sessions.

From the last two maps, 11 Waystones were pulled out. These are placed in one spot and the crafting process begins:

  1. Start with Alchemy - if the item is normal, this is the most efficient way to give it the most number of affixes.

  2. Then proceed to Augmentation

  3. Then to Regal

  4. Finally, Exalt

It’s worth mentioning that if at the point in the season where Exalts are slim and hard to find, it may not be worth using them. But if already in the higher-end stage, it is definitely and for sure recommended to exalt slam through.

As the slams proceed, the properties are watched carefully. In that slam, three maps were identified as worth upgrading.

Looking for those with quantity and rarity, that's priority one:

  • Quant is #1

  • Rarity is #2 (with a low roll and high roll depending on whether it doubles rolls on the prefix)

  • Then rare monsters

  • Then the pack size

  • Then, additional packs of monster types

Three maps that hit quant are selected. These are the ones to distill and Vaal.

An extra check is made for any other map that hit good rarity with another good modifier. One is found: 52% rarity and 46% increased magic monsters. If no other maps are available, this one could be distilled and Vaal’d as well. But with three already picked, the process proceeds with those.

6. Evaluating and Selling Slammed Maps

There are now two sets:

  1. Maps that are not intended to be run may be sold

  2. Maps that are distilled and Vaaled

The first group is Vaal’d without even checking. If one of them has distillation already applied, it may be worth checking. One such map rerolled all its mods and ended up with 8 properties. It became a really powerful map: quant, rarity, pack size, additional packs of monsters, a sick juicy map.

The rest, though possibly good, don’t have distillation and won’t be run at this stage of the season. These should be placed into a sale tab. An affinity tab is recommended. Fill it with maps worth one Divine, let it sit, then drop it, and people will buy them. This helps replenish the POE 2 currency needed to slam more maps.

Using the default Waystone tab is not recommended. When someone pings for trade, it doesn’t highlight the item, and map names are non-unique, making it hard to find. Manual tab organization is better, and regex can be applied to the whole thing, which helps a lot.

7. Finalizing the Best Maps

Now, with the three top maps selected, it's time to open Paranoia and apply distillation.

One of the maps had already been checked in the last session and could not take any more distillation, it was maxed out.

All three maps are now Vaal’d.

After Vaal’ing:

  • Two maps rolled tier, which might mean mod rerolls

  • One did not roll tier

One of them has a brick mod: Temporal Chains, which is an absolute brick this season.

Other brick mods include:

  • Ailment Threshold, which makes most charge generation turn off (depending on the build)

  • Ignited Ground

These three are considered the worst brick mods. The map with Temp Chains goes into the sale tab. The Tier 14 map is optional to run, but with so many super juiced good maps, it’s not worth using, so it’s also set aside.

One map turned out to be the ultimate:

  • XP gain Tier 16

  • Delirious

  • Quant + Rarity

Worth noting: Tier 16 XP gain maps often sell for one Divine. All such maps sold at one Divine or more in both seasons tested.

This map can be sold to replenish, run for profit, or just enjoyed.

This concludes one sample set of maps. More example sets are included at the end of the video for those interested in seeing further progression and decision-making.

8. How to Filter for Super Juicer Maps on Path of Exile Trade

The final official section covers how to filter for maps on PoE Trade.

A Super Juicer map filter is pulled up to show where the different filters lie:

  • Type in Waystone

  • Set minimum tier to 15, to only see Tier 15 and 16 maps

  • On the right, add: Mods that are wanted and Mods that are not wanted

  • Deliriousness is added as an enchant

Make sure to grab mods that say "in your maps" at the end, otherwise, it might refer to item rarity or unrelated effects.

Example Filter:

  • 20% quantity

  • 100% rarity

  • Any pack size

  • Delirious

  • No Temp Chains

  • No Ailment Threshold

A filter link will be included in the description.

Prices start at 910 chaos, though price fixing may occur. These maps usually sell for at least one Divine, and as deliriousness increases, prices go even higher.

Some maps cost:

  • 200 exalted orbs

  • 4 Divines

  • Others are full prefix maps with no downsides, and can be run with any build

These really do sell. Players often sit down for a session, buy up all the maps they want to run, and then go for it.

This is a quick preview in case pricing or purchasing is needed, and very helpful.
