Top 5 Elden Ring Best Greatsword Builds (PvP/PvE) After 1.09 Patch

With patch 1.09, greatsword receives amazing buffs, some of the more notable ones are going to affect the weapon class quite a lot. Now the greatsword moveset is insane, the initial heavy attack comes out quite a lot faster than it used to, so now if you do happen to land light and stun your opponent, it's going to be very easy to use the heavy attack as a roll catch as it comes out quite a lot faster than it did before the patch the running light as well something that.  Greatswords have very high single-attack damage and they can be power stance more easily than colossal weapons due to lower weight, and they generally have very low requirements that can be two-handed very easily in most cases. And now the changes from the 1.09 patch especially the moveset buff cemented greatswords' status as the best weapons in Elden Ring that are most used for the endgame PvE content and also dominated in PvP. Here we break down the Top 5 Best Elden Ring Greatsword Builds that are set up with the most powerful greatsword weapons.

1. Blasphemous Blade Build

With the speed range and recovery time decreased the Blasphemous Blade has received more loves in Elden Ring. If you're into the guard counters, definitely use this build.  The Blasphemous blade definitely deserves a spot in the top three best greatsword weapons in Elden Ring, this weapon is best utilized on faith builds. And here we show you one of the strongest strength and faith-based builds that focus on this weapon and give you the most amount of damage possible. Like most of the other best-in-slot weapons and Elden Ring, the weapon skill on this Greatsword is the reason why it's top tier. One of the other great things about this weapon, HP is stored upon defeating an enemy and the unique skill Taker's Flame raises the sacred sword Aloft to set it Ablaze with Blasphemous Flames then brings it down to set off a forward blast, this skill has incredible range, decent radius, and you also get HP back on kill, therefore, the Blasphemous Blade build are very effective in both PvE and PvP now!

2. Dark Moon Greatsword Build (Moonlight Build)

  • Weapons & Ash of War: Dark Moon Greatsword (Right Hand), Carian Regal Scepter (Left Hand), or Lusat's Glintstone Staff (Left Hand)

  • Armor Sets: Greathelm, Confessor Armor, Spellblade's Gloves, Spellblade's Trousers

  • Talismans: Shard of Alexander, Godfrey Icon, Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman, Magic Scorpion Charm

  • Spells: Ranni's Dark Moon

  • Stats (Level 150): 50 Vigor, 35 Mind, 13 Endurance, 16 Strength, 12 Dexterity, 80 Intelligence, 14 Faith, 9 Arcane

In Elden Ring, the Darkmoon Greatsword is widely regarded as one of the most recognizable greatswords available. At the maximum level, this sword boasts impressive intelligence scaling and respectable strength and dexterity scaling. The Dark Moon Greatsword features a unique weapon skill known as the Moonlight Greatsword, which enables players to execute a magical long-range attack with each swing of the sword. The previous update for Elden Ring (version 1.05) has resolved a bug that previously impacted the performance of this particular weapon skill. And now in patch 1.09, the increased speed, range, and recovery time of some attacks, and the speed of guard counters for great swords, makes this Moonlight Greatsword more powerful! It's clear that the top greatsword build heavily relies on the Darkmoon Greatsword, as expected. However, this build prioritizes maximizing damage output not only with the sword but also with spells. To achieve this goal, the build utilizes spells that require high intelligence costs as they significantly enhance the amount of magic damage dealt.

3. Heavry Greatsword Build

  • Weapon: Heavy Greatsword+25 with Lion's Claw

  • Armor: Bull-Goat Armor Set

  • Talismans: Erdtree's Favor, Pearldrake Talisman+2, Great-Jar's Arsenal, Shard of Alexander

  • Stats: 70 Vigor, 30 Mind, 53 Endurance, 99 Strength, 19 Dexterity, 14 Intelligence, 13 Faith, 19 Arcane

The greatsword has the unique charged heavy attack, as far as we are aware it's the only sword in the game that does this and it will spin around you for a complete 360 obliterating all enemies around you and it's very effective. The move set of the greatsword is one of the many things that makes this weapon so insanely powerful, another thing to mention is the fact that you have a solid guard counter when two-handing this weapon without even needing to use a shield, so the extra weight can be distributed to wear heavier more powerful armor sets. You will take a small amount of Chip damage from most attacks but honestly, the two-handed guard of the greatsword is amazing. You are taking practically no damage from any of the attacks and are able to follow up with a guard counter stunning and staggering nearly all enemies in one hit, which is another one of the many reasons this weapon is just so good. The ash of War we are using is Lion's Claw with the heavy Affinity because the strength scaling on this sword is amazing, the Blood Infusion is viable too since it does give you a decent amount of blood buildup as well, but the actual raw attack power is far more if you just use a pure strength heavy scaling and that is still the case even at 99 strength and 99 Arcane. So to clarify that if you have both stats at 99 the sword will still do more damage with a heavy infusion than it will with a blood infusion.

4. Godslayer's Greatsword Build

  • Weapon: Godslayer's Greatsword+10 with The Queen's Black Flame (Right Hand), Godslayer's Seal+25 (Left Hand)

  • Armor: Blackflame Monk Hood, Blackflame Monk Armor, Blackflame Monk Gauntlets, Radahn's Greaves

  • Talismans: Dragoncreat Greatshield Talisman, Fire Scorpion Charm, Ritual Sowrd Talisman, Shard of Alexander

  • Flask of Wondrous Physick: Flame-Shrouding Cracked Tear, Opaline Hardtear

  • Stats (Level 150):  50 Vigor, 25 Mind, 31 Endurance, 20 Strength, 40 Dexterity, 9 Intelligence, 40 Faith, 14 Arcane

Godslayer’s Greatsword is a ton of fun to use and its Ash of War the Queen's Black Flame does percentage damage fire and physical damage, which combines for a lot of damage in general. Godslayer’s Greatsword is actually a Dex weapon, it does have a few Hefty strength requirements to start given the fact that if you want to single-hand it, you're going to need at least 20 strength, after that though skills with dex which you need 22 dexterity and 20 faith because it's also going to scale with faith. The Ash of War scales a mix between dexterity and Faith, it's a combination of both fire park comes from faith and physical part work comes from dexterity. So this is very much not really a quality weapon exactly but in the sense of quality it is because you're going to be splitting your stats between dexterity and faith if you want to make the best out of its Ash of War. So for the ash of War, after that initial pullback which you can actually make contact and get hit with, then you get two of the Fire Hits which have very good hype armor, you only get one percentage damage throughout the entire Ash of War but it can take off a lot and the fire and physical damage all three hits, if you make contact with all three can do massive damage to the majority of bosses in the game. This is actually excellent against mobs, it really works quite well against them simply.

Now let's break down how to setup the build:

5. Morgott's Cursed Sword Build

  • Weapons & Ash of War: Morgott's Cursed Sword+10 (Right Hand), Bloodhound's Fang+10 (Left Hand), Dragon Communion Seal+10

  • Armor Sets: White Mask, Raptor's Black Feathers, All-Knowing Gaunltets, All-Knowing Gauntlets

  • Talismans: Shard of Alexander, Lord of Blood's Exultation, Great-Jar's Arsenal, Erdtree's Favor

  • Flask of Wondrous Physick: Flame-Shrouding Cracked Tear, Crimson Bubbletear

  • Stats (Level 150): 60 Vigor, 10 Mind, 15 Endurance, 18 Strength, 75 Dexterity, 9 Intelligence, 25 Faith, 17 Arcane

The speed range and recovery time of various attacks have been adjusted, significantly improving the effectiveness of curved greatswords. These changes have greatly increased the speed and range of attacks, making them more versatile when used with one or two hands. Additionally, these improvements are complemented by powerful Ashes of War such as the Bloodhound's Fang and Bloodhound Finesse, which includes an uppercut strike that deals significant damage and has been recently adjusted. The curse blood slash of the Morgott's Cursed Sword has also been improved, with faster projectile generation speed and recovery time, resulting in a much smoother combo execution, especially in PvP. This build combines the benefits of these improved weapon types with these two fantastic Ashes of War, making it highly effective in both PvP and PvE. The damage output is impressive, with almost a thousand damage dealt per trade, making it a formidable force to be reckoned with.
