WoW Classic Season of Discovery PVP Tier List - Best Class & Specs

WoW Season of Discovery PvP Tier List For 1v1, Raid, BG at 25 Level

Even outside of Season of Discovery, every class in WoW Classic is viable for PvP in some capacity. Although in 1v1 scenarios classes such as frost mage, sub rogue, and SL warlock have been historically oppressive. Wow Classic SoD is not a game of fair fights. You can invest time into gearing, buffs, and consumables which will give you a massive advantage in PvP scenarios. Runes are also removing many classes' exploitable weaknesses in PvP as well. WoW Classic Season of Discovery is a game where investing enough preparation time can make you unkillable to those who didn't and if someone else has invested even more time than you, then you can just bring friends next time. Now let’s go over each class and spec to figure out which is the best class you should play for PvP in SoD Phase 1 at level 25!

1 - Warlock (S Tier)

Tank Warlocks should probably not have happened for PvP 500% armor, 600+ shielding x2, healthstone, drain life as a dot + incinerate/instant cast searing pain, and the regular dots. They are simply too tanky, have too much self sustain, and do too much damage to not be op. Priests/Shamans purging your shields/hots off are probably the only way you will be killable.

  • 1v1 (S+ Tier): No one will beat you. Physical DPS will tickle you and casters will envy you. Paladins who spec exorcism might be able to blast you with exorcism but even they may not beat you.

  • Small Group (S Tier): You might as well be a small raid boss

  • Raid PvP (A Tier): you're probably not as good as a mage in raid scenarios but you will still do decent damage with ROF.

  • BGs (S Tier): Warlocks weren't that good in the 19 or 29 twink bracket. But their tank runes are so broken we don't see how they aren't just unkillable demon kings in any PVP scenario.

2 - Hunter (S Tier)

Hunters will likely be the single most dominant class in PvP in the 25 bracket. Although they lack the scatter trap combo to get away, their kiting ability and damage output are going to be unmatched.

  • 1v1 (A Tier): MM hunters won't be that good in duels, but BM hunters should be very strong. In open World PvP 1v1s, they can kite infinitely and are stronger than every other class

  • Small Group (S Tier): Hunters will be able to CC and burst down key targets from a far range in small group PvP. Even as BM the pet scaling is very strong at 25 level and could probably solo some other classes.

  • Raid PvP (A Tier): They lack the large AOE abilities like mages or warlocks but they do have long range and can pick people off with targeted single-target damage.

  • BGs (S Tier): Hunters will likely be an extremely dominant class in WSG. Especially as other classes will not have mounts and may not have a way to close the gap. Their strong consistent range damage will make them kings of mid.

3 - Mages (S Tier)

Frost Mage is stacked coming into the level 25 SoD meta. Getting Ice Lance + Icy Veins + Fingers of Frost + Cold Snap is insane at level 25. You miss out on CoC and ice block but FoF + icy veins and cold snap is incredible burst damage on top of their already very control-heavy kit

  • 1v1 (S Tier): Frost mage cooldowns are going to be unbelievably strong in a 1v1 PvP scenario. With the ability to dead zone hunters they likely only have losing matchups to paladins, which half of mages won't even face in world pvp

  • Small Group (A Tier): In small group PvP there will likely be lots of dispels and heals to sustain your burst damage. Though they can still be 5/5 with a well-coordinated group

  • Raid PvP (S Tier): Blizzard, frost nova, and arcane explosion are some of the strongest abilities in raid V raid PvP, all of which are on mage. Expect them to be spectacular in large PvP group settings.

  • BGs (A Tier): Frost mages will operate in WSG similar to that of an Ele or Bookin. They will excel in the mid-fights where they can pump damage from range. However, they may struggle to lock down druids who can break their freezes and sustain their damage.

4 - Paladins (A Tier)

Paladins get a lot of damage coming into sod, and they get it immediately in the 25 brackets as they come through runes. Immunity to fear is massive along with several instant damaging abilities.

  • 1v1 (A Tier): Ret Paladins were already very strong before and with the addition of kicks and additional damage expect them to be strong in 1v1s. Still kitable by hunters in the open world

  • Small Group (B Tier): Ret pals will be strong but can be focused and need support through cc/heals to shine.

  • Raid PvP (C Tier): Rets provide very little in large PvP battles but can off-heal where necessary. Consecrate can be a good ability in choke points.

  • BGs (A Tier): Strong performers in battlegrounds and their on-demand stun will be very powerful for focusing a target though it can be dispelled. Healer Paladins provide amazing utility to their team through buffs and especially freedom. Healing isn't as strong as other classes, but the utility more than makes upforit.

5 - Shamans (A Tier)

Elementals Shamans will have extremely strong bursts at level 25 and will excel in group pvp situations where they can be protected. Enhance doesn't get their full kit until later levels so they will probably struggle at 25 level.

  • 1v1 (C Tier): Elemental shamans will have no way of playing keep away so they can cast and are susceptible to CC and kicks. Enh will likely do better but won't be able to compete with other melees.

  • Small Group (A Tier): Shaman's weaknesses can be covered up in group PvP settings and teammates can peel for the Ele Shamans giving them the ability to free cast. They are much more viable in groups

  • Raid PvP (A Tier): Chain lightning is one of the strongest group PvP abilities and does insane damage. CL + their single target burst makes them great in raid PvP until groups close the gap.

  • BGs (B Tier): Although strong performers in midfield, they can get locked down and focused by other classes. Still, a threat the team will need to focus, however. Shaman healing is good but they aren't as good in the support role as paladins and priests. They are likely better suited as eles who off heal.

6 - Druids (B Tier)

Druids get a lot of the critical parts of their kits for both Feral and Boomie early on. But they likely still won't be able to beat many classes in 1v1s without cheesing the fight. Boomies will likely play like Ele shamans with less damage but some more CC options

  • 1v1 (B Tier): Druids can cheese a lot of 1v1 matchups by basically attritioning out the fight with their mobility and roots. They won't need that playstyle as much now but they likely still can't beat strong 1v1ers like rogues and locks. 5/5 for ganking someone 1v1 however as they can stealth

  • Small Group (B Tier): Between their several stuns, roots, and charges. Feral Druids are good at locking down a target for their group to converge on.

  • Raid PvP (C Tier): Feral Druids are good in a raid PvP setting and are mostly focused on rooting out of-position targets for their party. Decent damage but can't jump in there as a cat.

  • BGs (S Tier): Still the strongest flag carrier in the game and an essential part of any WSG premade comp. Druid healing is pretty strong for PvP combined as they have strong CC options along with their heals. However, they lack a defensive dispel and instant cast heals like priest shield.

7 - Priests (B Tier)

Although priests lack much of their shadow kit at 25 they still get shield + renew and Dp which gives a lot of self-healing back. They are very durable and will excel in 1v1 scenarios and healing.

  • 1v1 (A Tier): Priests have always been very strong duelers in classic due to their durability, and often unmitigated damage. They may struggle against classes like hunter but their dots will likely finish the job if they die first.

  • Small Group (B Tier): As a support healer priests will provide a lot of survivability to their group while also providing reasonable damage.

  • Raid PvP (C Tier): Healing priests excel in raid PVP due to their healing output though Shadow doesn't have the ranged AOE damage like shamans or mages

  • BGs (B Tier): Shadow excels more as a 1v1 spec but is not as effective in organized bg settings as they oom often. Healers are very strong in premade bgs and will be brought in optimal comps. Druid healing is pretty strong for PvP combined as they have strong CC options along with their heals. However, they lack a defensive dispel and instant cast heals like priest shield.

8 - Rogues (B Tier)

Rogues unfortunately don't get cheap shot or blind however they do get between the eyes as a

replacement for kidney. Regardless even with BTE, without cheap shot they will likely lack the ability to consistently do their flowchart style 100-0 CC chains which is a big loss for rogue PvP capabilities.

  • 1v1 (A Tier): Without the ability to do CC chains their dueling power is significantly hampered however they will still have good damage and can probably blitz down many classes without cheap shot.

  • Small Group (B Tier): Rogues will be able to lock down and single out targets with their CC and damage, but can be easily targeted if the enemies turn and focus the rogue.

  • Raid PvP (D Tier): Practically useless

  • BGs (C Tier): Rogues are excellent for both flag defense in WSG and flag recovery. The speed you move at in stealth is unbearably slow at 25 but the ability to lock down a druid with lots of CC is beneficial for a WSG comp. Though they may still be outshined by hunters  in flag defense

9 - Warriors (D Tier)

Although Warriors do get quite a few critical PvP tools at 25, the lack of intercept and mortal strike is crippling to their PvP viability in both 1v1 settings and group settings. Notably, although Warbringer available at 25, the intercept is not but you still get a good amount of power through in combat charge which can purge roots.

1v1 (D Tier): Warbringer allows you to charge in combat but they can still be kited by several classes. Will likely still lose to many classes but you better off than you were in vanilla

Small Group (A Tier): warriors with a pally/priest will be monsters as they can be defensively dispelled and healed to keep uptime on the enemy. AOE shout + hamstring are important CC tools

Raid PvP (D Tier): Nearly useless without ranged, significant AOE, or healing at 25. Better at later levels.

BGs (C Tier): As Battleground performance is quite similar to the small group they perform ok with a coordinated group. However, you would much rather have other classes.

Warlocks and hunters will likely be at the top of the 25 PvP meta for Season of Discovery. Tank warlocks retain all the benefits of being a warlock while also being unreasonably tanky while hunters gain untold amounts of damage and will be globally people from shadowmeld. Several other classes in the S-B tier are still very viable in group PvP settings but may struggle on their own or without dedicated support. Again any class can be a crit king in WOW Classic SoD, don't think you can't play Warrior in the 25 meta.
