D2R Ladder Season 16 Best Amazon Build Guide

Diablo II: Resurrected Ladder Season 16, launching November 13 with Patch 3.4, brings a major change to the Eternity runeword. It now works on missile weapons, which opens a powerful new option for the Strafe Amazon. This physical bow build focuses on fast arrow volleys, high deadly strike, and strong defensive utility, and it stands out as one of the most exciting endgame setups for this season. This guide covers D2R S16 Amazon build stats, gear, skill choices, mercenary picks, core mechanics and key tradeoffs for this new Strafezon.

D2R Ladder Season 16 Amazon Build

D2R Ladder Season 16 Amazon Build Guide

This Diablo 2 Strafe Amazon is a fresh physical bow build built around the reworked Eternity runeword, one of the most impactful item changes arriving in D2R Ladder Season 16 Patch 3.4. Unlike older Strafezon setups that depend heavily on Raven Frost for Cannot Be Frozen, this version leans on the new bow’s built-in bonuses to free up valuable gear slots. It balances fast clear speed, high Deadly Strike and Pierce potential, plus extra defensive utility from slow target and Revive minions. It works well for general Terror Zone farming, Chaos Sanctuary runs at higher player counts, and boss hunting. It is not a cheap starter build, since Eternity requires rare runes, but it offers flexible gear choices and multiple viable variants once you put the core weapon together.

Stat Allocation

Follow the standard bow Amazon stat rule: put only enough points into Strength and Dexterity to meet your gear requirements. Do not overinvest unless you have a specific item you want to equip.

  • Strength: Only enough for your armor, helm and other gear.

  • Dexterity: Meet base requirements for your bow. Dexterity adds physical damage for bows, so you can add extra here if you want more damage, but it is not mandatory for this build’s core plan.

  • Vitality: Place all remaining points here. More life improves survival in Hell difficulty, especially when running high player count games.

  • Energy: Zero points. Amazon does not need extra base mana; leech and mana from gear cover your mana cost for Strafe.

Skill Setup

Strafe is your main attacking skill. The goal of this Season 16 version is to stack Critical Strike / Deadly Strike and push Pierce toward 100% with gear bonuses, while using leftover skill points for Valkyrie to soak damage.

  • Strafe (20 points): Your primary skill. It fires rapid streams of arrows and works very well with the new Eternity bow, letting you reliably hit multiple targets and trigger on-strike effects.

  • Critical Strike: You do not need to max this out. With the right gear, you can reach nearly 100% combined Critical Strike and Deadly Strike. In this setup, gear supplies around 52% Deadly Strike, so only a small investment in Critical Strike gets you close to the cap.

  • Pierce: A small hard point investment is enough. With Razortail and +skill bonuses from your gear, your total Pierce chance can hit 100%. Full pierce means your arrows pass through monsters and hit more targets behind them, which is huge for Strafe clear speed.

  • Valkyrie: Spend your leftover points here. A high-level Valkyrie has strong life, attack rating and defense, and she can tank dangerous enemies such as Heralds in high player count games.

  • One point in each passive utility: Dodge, Avoid, Evade, Inner Sight, Decoy. These give cheap defensive and crowd control benefits without heavy point costs.

Important note: Eternity has Hit Blinds Target, a curse effect. This conflicts with Atma’s Scarab, which applies Amplify Damage on striking. These two effects overwrite each other, so you cannot use both at the same time. This is one of the biggest tradeoffs you need to plan for.

Gear (Endgame Focused)

The centerpiece of this D2 Amazon build is the updated Eternity runeword in a bow base. Matriarchal Bow is preferred over Grand Matron Bow for its better innate attack speed, even though Grand Matron Bow can also roll Eternity. The best possible roll for Eternity in this setup is up to 390% Enhanced Damage, plus 30% Increased Attack Speed, +5 Revive (o-skill), Slows Target by 33%, and Cannot Be Frozen.

  • Weapon: Eternity Runeword (Matriarchal Bow). Cannot Be Frozen is the standout bonus here. This removes the common need for Raven Frost ring, freeing up your ring slot for other choices. Slow Target by 33% helps keep bosses and tough elites from rushing you, and Revive summons tankable minions to draw aggro.

  • Helm: Andariel’s Visage is a realistic, practical option. Ultra-rare triple-socketed jeweler’s circlets are theoretically best-in-slot but extremely hard to find for most players. If you want a custom rare or crafted circlet, look for +Amazon skills, faster run/walk, or faster cast rate if you plan to use Enigma. The updated Veil of Steel is also a strong alternative; it grants +2 to all skills, physical damage reduction and magic resistance, which helps counter the Bone Breakunder charm penalty.

  • Armor: Two main choices. Fortitude is the default for massive enhanced damage. Enigma is a mobility swap; it gives teleport, but you will need to adjust your gear to hit faster cast rate breakpoints and often add extra Pierce points to compensate for dropping Razortail.

  • Amulet: Highlord’s Wrath is the recommended pick. It gives +1 to all skills, Increased Attack Speed, Deadly Strike scaling with character level, and lightning resistance. The Cat's Eye is a budget alternative if you need faster run/walk and attack speed instead.

  • Belt: Razortail is standard for the extra Pierce chance that helps you hit 100% pierce. If you switch to Enigma, you can swap this belt out for Arachnid Mesh to get faster cast rate.

  • Boots: Gore Rider is the main selection. It adds Deadly Strike, Crushing Blow, and Open Wounds, which push your total Deadly Strike toward the cap. War Traveler is a swap option if you prioritize magic find.

  • Gloves: You have several valid picks. Crafted Hit Power gloves can bring knockback if you want it. Laying of Hands is a classic physical bowazon option. Steelrend works if you do not need extra attack speed. The newly updated Lava Gout is another interesting choice, with a 5% chance to cast Level 10 Enchant on striking and Cannot Be Frozen, though it is more of an experimental variant.

  • Rings: Since Eternity gives Cannot Be Frozen, Raven Frost is no longer required. One strong option is the Wisp Projector. It provides Level 5 Heart of Wolverine to boost attack rating and damage, lightning absorb, and a lightning on-strike proc. You can also pick a dual leech ring with resistances to fill your second ring slot.

Mercenary Choice

A standard Act 2 Might mercenary is the usual pick for physical bow builds. The Might aura boosts your physical damage output, which works perfectly with Strafe, Deadly Strike and Crushing Blow. Equip your merc with life leech, damage reduction and resist gear so he stays alive to maintain the aura. You can also try other auras for different playstyles, but Might is the safest default for pure physical damage.

Playstyle and Key Mechanics

This build is built for fast, consistent physical damage. Strafe fires arrows in a stream, so all your on-strike effects trigger very often. The Eternity bow’s Revive skill lets you bring extra minions into fights to tank bosses or Heralds in P8 games. The big decision comes from the curse conflict: Atma’s Scarab’s Amplify Damage will overwrite Eternity’s Hit Blinds Target. If you want Amplify Damage for higher physical damage, you cannot rely on Hit Blinds Target. If you want Hit Blinds Target for crowd control, you must skip Atma’s Scarab.

Build Variant Options and Tradeoffs

  • Enigma Teleport Variant: Swap Fortitude for Enigma, swap Razortail for Arachnid Mesh, and use a faster cast rate amulet. This lets you teleport freely, but you will need to add extra Pierce points to make up for losing Razortail’s pierce bonus.

  • Veil of Steel Defensive Variant: Run Veil of Steel for +2 all skills, physical damage reduction and magic resist. This works well against the Bone Break Sunder charm, and it can be paired with a Protector's Stone jewel for a chance to cast Fade when struck, adding more physical resistance.

  • Lava Gout Gloves Variant: Use Lava Gout instead of other gloves for Enchant procs and Cannot Be Frozen, which opens up different ring options again. This is more experimental and less proven for endgame boss farming.
