Diablo 4 Season 16 Tier List - Best Paladin Builds

Diablo 4 Season 16 Best Paladin Build Tier List (3.3 PTR)

The Paladin was the second weakest class in the live season of Diablo 4, but Season 16 flips the script. Thanks to a mix of targeted buffs across Zeal, auras, and ultimate-focused builds, Paladin players are eating good this patch. On top of class-specific love, the new talisman system lets Paladins run two different five-piece set bonuses at once using rings and amulets with "plus one to set" affixes, opening up build combinations that weren't possible in previous seasons.

With a general idea of the Paladin's trajectory in mind, let's go over the specific buffs and nerfs that are reshaping the class.

Changes To Paladin (Buffs and Nerfs)

Season 16 brings one of the most significant shake-ups the Paladin has seen in recent memory. After sitting as the second weakest class on live servers, the class is receiving broad, meaningful improvements across its core kit — skills, sets, uniques, and even its class mechanic. A few targeted nerfs keep the strongest builds in check, but the net result is a massive power swing in Paladin's favor.

Buffs ✅

  • Aura Potency has been reworked into a true multiplier instead of an additive bonus, dramatically increasing the ceiling for aura-based builds like Auradin.

  • Zeal receives a solid base damage increase, pushing it firmly back into S-tier contention as a spender.

  • Dauntless Faith set gets a direct power bump, making it the premier choice for Zeal builds this season.

  • Oath (class mechanic) now provides +15% Damage Reduction and generates Fortify, finally solving the survivability issues Zeal Paladins have struggled with.

  • Red Sermon unique now grants a massive +20x damage multiplier, turning it into a core item for high-end damage builds.

  • Zenith ultimate has been upgraded, making ultimate-focused builds a legitimate option rather than a meme pick.

  • Heaven's Fury and Soul of Matter both receive buffs, giving flavor builds more room to breathe in the mid-tier.

Nerfs ❌

  • Fortress damage has been reduced, trimming the ceiling on Shield of Retribution without killing the build.

  • Shield of Retribution takes a modest hit but remains strong thanks to its reliability and tankiness.

  • Sunder Knight receives a small nerf, dropping it to a B-tier farming option.

  • Captain America Auradin sees its resource cost increased, slightly reining in the throw-shield variant.

Diablo 4 Season 16 Best Paladin Builds for Leveling & Endgame (The Pit)

Season 16 is a renaissance moment for the Paladin class. The talisman set system changes the math on nearly every build, and Paladin is one of the classes best positioned to abuse the double five-piece bonus setup since it doesn't rely on a mandatory unique ring to function.  Paladin will offer more power, flexibility, and some of the most satisfying buffs on the 3.3 PTR patch notes. Here we've sorted out the best Paladin builds after breaking down the changes to the Paladin shown in Diablo 4's Season 16 PTR patch notes and analysis from pro players such as MacroBioBoi and Rob2628.

1. S-Tier: Zeal Paladin (Dauntless Faith)

The Zeal Paladin is the headline build of the season. The combination of a buffed set, a buffed base skill, Fortify generation from the Oath, and a stacked Red Sermon unique turns Zeal from a punishing niche skill into a top-tier damage engine.

  • Leveling: 9/10. Zeal scales well with early gear thanks to the base damage buffs and the Moonrise aspect bump for basic skill play styles.

  • Endgame: 9/10. Multiple set bonuses stacking with Dauntless Faith plus Righteous Will creates ridiculous damage ceilings.

  • The Pit: 9/10. With two five-piece bonuses active and the new Fortify generation keeping you alive, pushing high Pit tiers is realistic.

Why it works in Season 16: The buffs touch every layer of the build, from the skill itself to the supporting unique and set. Zeal finally has the defensive cushion it needed to survive the content it wants to clear.

2. S-Tier: Auradin (Aura Potency)

The classic "walking simulator" Paladin returns to form. Aura potency going from additive to a full multiplier is exactly the kind of math change that catapults builds up the tier list. Just walk, and everything in your radius dies.

  • Leveling: 7/10. Auradin requires some investment before it comes online, so it's not the fastest early build.

  • Endgame: 9/10. Once your aura potency, skill ranks, and set bonuses are stacked, the passive clear speed is unmatched.

  • The Pit: 8.5/10. Clearing packs is effortless, though boss damage requires planning around which auras you keep up.

Why it works in Season 16: The multiplier change compounds with every rank and every aura you have active, and the talisman system lets you run Conviction alongside your main set for even more aura potency.

3. A-Tier: Shield of Retribution (Fortress Build)

Shield of Retribution has been the dominant Paladin build for several seasons running, and even with a nerf to Fortress damage, it remains a top performer. The build loses a bit of its ceiling but keeps the defensive profile that made it a Pit pushing favorite.

  • Leveling: 8/10. Smooth and durable, with reliable damage from the start.

  • Endgame: 8/10. Still viable for high-tier content, just no longer the undisputed king.

  • The Pit: 8/10. Tankiness and consistency carry it through tough tiers even with the nerf.

Why it works in Season 16: Even after the haircut, the Fortify generation and damage reduction stacking make this the safest Paladin build for players who want to progress without worrying about dying.

4. A-Tier: Zenith Ultimate Build

Zenith is receiving a notable upgrade this patch, and while it's not quite at the level of Zeal or Auradin, it offers a different play style that some players will prefer. The ultimate-centric design pairs well with the new helmet affixes that can roll ultimate skill cooldown.

  • Leveling: 6/10. Ultimate builds generally struggle during leveling because of long cooldowns.

  • Endgame: 7.5/10. Burst-heavy and satisfying, especially against bosses.

  • The Pit: 7/10. Great for boss rooms, less consistent during long trash corridors.

Why it works in Season 16: The ultimate skill cooldown rolls on helmets, combined with buffs to Zenith's numerical values, make this a legitimate option rather than a meme build.

5. B-Tier: Sundered Night Paladin

Sundered Night gets a small, somewhat puzzling nerf this season, but the build still functions well enough to be worth playing if the fantasy appeals. It's not pushing the top of The Pit anymore, but it's solid for mid-tier content and farming.

  • Leveling: 7/10. Reliable and straightforward.

  • Endgame: 6.5/10. Falls short of the top builds but remains functional.

  • The Pit: 6/10. Comfortable up to around Pit 110-120, struggles beyond.

Why it works in Season 16: The talisman system still gives Sunder Knight access to two set bonuses, keeping it relevant even without targeted buffs.

6. B-Tier: Heaven's Fury / Soul of Matter Paladin

Heaven's Fury and Soul of Matter variants received some love this patch, enough to be playable but not enough to compete with the S-tier options. These are flavor picks for players who love the holy judgment theme.

  • Leveling: 6/10. Clunky early, improves with investment.

  • Endgame: 6/10. Fun to play, but outperformed by Zeal and Auradin.

  • The Pit: 5.5/10. Mid-tier Pit clears are realistic, but high pushes are a stretch.

Why it works in Season 16: The buffs give these builds enough juice to be worth experimenting with on the PTR, and the double set system can still boost their output considerably.

Could Paladin Be The Biggest Winner in Diablo 4 Season 16?

YES✅. Here's why:

The talisman set system is tailor-made for Zeal Paladin. Players only need two pieces of the Dauntless Faith set in their charm slots, then pair that with two rings and an amulet each giving "plus one to Dauntless Faith." That setup activates the five-piece bonus, delivering the 200% bonus damage plus the stacking 25% x 3 damage boost from the buffed set.

With four charm slots still open and a normal Heroic Seal, players can either slot a unique charm for a damage spike plus another three-piece set, or run two additional sets like Conviction (for aura potency) and Righteous Will (for continuous fear and immobilize effects). All three sets can be active with one hitting the five-piece bonus.

Push it further with the Seal of the Diamond Mind, which reduces the number of charms needed for a set bonus by one, down to a minimum of two. Two Dauntless Faith pieces plus two rings now equals a five-piece bonus, and four Righteous Will pieces reach the five-piece bonus thanks to the seal. The amulet then adds another "plus one," meaning two five-piece bonuses active at once plus room for a crazy unique charm.

Add to this the general class buffs across the board, and Paladin is positioned to be one of the top three classes in Season 16, likely alongside Rogue and Sorcerer.
