Diablo 4 S15 Meat or Treat Rewards & Best Butcher Farm Guide

Halloween has descended upon Sanctuary, and Blizzard has rolled out something fans have been asking about for years: a dedicated Halloween event starring the Butcher himself. The Meat or Treat event in Season 15 brings a burning version of the dreaded Butcher into open world dungeons, pairs with increased Treasure Goblin spawns, and turns regular shrine interactions into haunted surprises. This guide walks you through everything about the Butcher side of the double event, from dates and mechanics to loot tables and the fastest farming methods.

Diablo 4 Season 15 Halloween Meat or Treat Guide - Rewards & Best Butcher Farm Methods

Diablo 4 Halloween 2026 - Season 15 Meat or Treat Event Guide

Meat or Treat is Diablo 4's Halloween celebration, themed entirely around the series' most infamous elite boss. Blizzard sums up the 2026 edition in one line: "Meat or Treat is haunting Sanctuary once again. Dive in now to face Infernal Butchers, increased Treasure Goblins, special shrines, and brave deadly tricks for a chance at sweet rewards."

The 2026 version runs alongside the March of the Goblins event, giving players a combined week of boosted loot, stackable Prime Evil Splinters, and a fresh reason to roll Nightmare Dungeon Sigils. The Burning Butcher's influence has leaked out of the Infernal Hordes and spread into Sanctuary's dungeons, meaning you can now trigger his appearance from shrines you would otherwise salvage without a second thought.

With that spooky setup out of the way, here is everything you need to know about dates, mechanics, loot, and farming.

Diablo 4 Halloween Event 2026: Meat or Treat Start & End Date

The schedule is tight, so plan your week around it.

  • Start Date: October 28, 2026 (launched alongside Patch 3.2.4)

  • End Date: November 4, 2026

Blizzard dropped the patch at 18:08 UTC (11:08 a.m. PT) on launch day. For reference, the original 2024 edition ran for exactly seven days, so the 2026 run follows the same window. If you want the Butcher cosmetics, splinter stacks, and Mythic chances, you have roughly one week to grind.

Now that the timeline is locked in, let's look at how the Butcher side of the event actually functions in game.

How to Run the Meat or Treat Event?

Unlike the Goblin March, Meat or Treat does not use a dedicated reputation board of its own. Instead, it layers Butcher spawns on top of two existing activities: Infernal Hordes and Nightmare Dungeons.

The Infernal Butcher Invasion

The Burning Butcher (sometimes called the Infernal Butcher) is a fiery variant of the classic Butcher. When he appears, the game flashes a message: "The Infernal Butcher has invaded your realm..."

Here is where he can show up:

  • Infernal Hordes: Spawn rates for Burning Butchers are heavily boosted. Running compasses is one of the fastest ways to farm him.

  • Nightmare Dungeons: The Butcher's influence now leaks out of the hordes and into open world dungeons. Certain shrine interactions can summon him instead of giving a standard buff.

Shrine Mechanics

Every shrine in a Nightmare Dungeon has event flavor during Meat or Treat. Live testing has produced the following observations:

  • Greed Shrines: Reliably spawn the Burning Butcher. The developer-recommended choice.

  • Channeling Shrines: Glow with a red tint and have event runes rotating around them. These have spawned goblins during testing but not Butchers.

  • Artillery Shrines: Listed in patch notes as a potential Butcher trigger.

  • Other Shrines: Blizzard's warning reads "be careful with what shrines you interact with right now," suggesting every shrine type carries some event twist.

Deadly Tricks

Blizzard's announcement mentions "deadly tricks for a chance at sweet rewards." This refers to the risk-reward layer baked into shrines. Activating a shrine can grant its normal buff, or it can summon a nasty surprise like a Burning Butcher ambush. Rolling the dice is part of the fun.

What is New in the Season 15 Halloween Event?

Meat or Treat is itself a first for Sanctuary, so several features are debuting with Patch 3.2.4.

First Ever Butcher Themed Halloween Event

Diablo 4 has never had a Butcher-focused seasonal event before. Having a burning variant of the Butcher appear outside of the Infernal Hordes is genuinely new ground.

Stackable Prime Evil Splinters

Patch 3.2.4 bumped the stack size of Prime Evil Splinters from 1 to 99. This covers Splinters of Destruction, Hatred, and Terror. Players who hoarded reputation caches earlier in the season can now claim all of them at Teisas and walk away with 60 or more splinters in a single sitting. The one catch is that stacks still cannot be moved into the stash, so you need to stay on the character that collected them.

Goblin Caches Dropping Seasonal Runes on Eternal

A quirky bug surfaced right after launch where Goblin Caches dropped Seasonal runes on Eternal characters, with reports of three Seasonal runes per cache. Blizzard typically hotfixes player-friendly bugs quickly, so crack caches early if you want to take advantage.

Helltide Lag Improvements

The patch addressed Hell Tide lag issues that had been plaguing earlier builds. Hell Tides now feel smoother for Butcher and goblin hunting.

Uber Boss Spawn Chains

Combined with stackable splinters, the ambushes rolled from the double event give players a much higher cadence of Uber Boss summons. You can essentially chain Uber Boss attempts between Butcher kills.

Now for the part most players want to know about: what you actually walk away with.

Season 15 Meat or Treat Rewards & Loot

Blizzard has only officially promised "sweet rewards" without publishing a formal reward list. Based on confirmed in-game data and early reports, here is what you can expect.

Reputation Track Rewards

Though Meat or Treat does not have its own board, it shares the March of the Goblins reputation track in Kyovashad. The listed rewards include:

RewardContents
Baron's GiftBaron's Bag of Coin, a Goblin Cache stuffed with Gold
Ector's GiftEctor's Bag of Materials, a Goblin Cache with Crafting Materials
Murl's GiftMurl's Bag of Obols, a Goblin Cache with Murmuring Obols
Prym's GiftPrym's Bag of Shiny, a Goblin Cache with Gem Fragments and Runes
Fedric's GiftFedric's Masterpiece, a Goblin Cache with a Resplendent Spark and multiple Runes
March of the Goblins EmblemProfile emblem (only if you did not earn it in an earlier March of the Goblins)
Regalia of the Sacred CreedCosmetic Horse Armor (also called Mother's Chosen Raiment in some translations)

Each Gift also slightly raises the chance that Treasure Goblins drop Treasure Bags during the event, per the in-game description.

Burning Butcher Drops

Infernal Butcher kills are reported to drop:

  • Legendary and Unique gear with high Greater Affix potential.

  • Mythic Uniques on rare rolls. One streamer reported a Mythic drop from a Nightmare Dungeon chest tied to the event.

  • Massive XP chunks, perfect for pushing Paragon 300 if you are still leveling.

  • Standard Butcher loot pool items, including the usual Butcher-exclusive drops.

Materials and Currencies from Combined Farming

While hunting the Butcher, expect to stockpile:

  • Primordial Dust in bulk.

  • Obducite for Masterworking.

  • Gem Fragments.

  • High tier runes including Ber and other runewords material.

  • Treasure Breach Nightmare Dungeon Sigils via the Goblin Fall war plan node.

  • Prime Evil Splinters at a vastly improved rate thanks to stacking.

With the reward list in hand, let's turn to the fastest ways to farm the event.

How to Farm Butcher & Meat or Treat Fast?

There are two main engines for Butcher farming, each with its own flow.

Method 1: Infernal Hordes Compass Spamming

This is the fastest Butcher XP method in the game right now.

  1. Stockpile Infernal Hordes Compasses.

  2. Pick the Total Chaos node on the Infernal Hordes war board to increase chaos wave frequency.

  3. Open full 10 wave hordes (note: compasses have been bugged, sometimes giving a 6 wave run even when you opened a 10 wave compass, so expect some QA quirks).

  4. Burning Butcher spawns are elevated throughout the activity, giving you repeated opportunities per run.

  5. Clearing a run also pays out seasonal materials, Obducite, and Paragon XP.

If you are not yet at Paragon 300, this method doubles as a leveling loop since Burning Butchers hand out large XP chunks per kill.

Method 2: Nightmare Dungeon Shrine Hunting

This method is slower but produces more varied loot and triggers the deadly tricks mechanic.

Preferred Sigils: Pick Nightmare Dungeon Sigils that contain shrines, particularly those listed as having Greed, Channeling, or Artillery shrines.

War Plans Setup:

  • Goblin Fall: Grants Treasure Goblins a chance to drop Treasure Breach Nightmare Dungeon Sigils.

  • Altar of Avarice: Replaces Horadric Altars with Goblin Altars, which spawn Treasure Goblins.

  • Horadric Hunter: Summons a Horadric Altar after every 25 elite kills in a Nightmare Dungeon.

  • Greed is Good: Grants a chance to open a portal to the Goblin Retreat (a hidden area containing a mysterious cow statue, possibly hinting at a future secret).

  • Treasure Hoard: Pick it up if you have the remaining points.

Gear Setup:

  • Equip Nemesis Bracers (or use the unique amulet version if you need the gloves slot) so every shrine activation spawns a pack of elites.

  • Slot Splinter of Hatred at rank 12. At that rank, killing any elite in a Nightmare Dungeon has a chance to reveal a Horadric Altar, which stacks into Goblin spawns via the Avarice node.

Shrine Routine:

  1. Enter the dungeon and scout for a Greed Shrine first since it is the most reliable Butcher trigger.

  2. Clear surrounding enemies so you can safely position before activation.

  3. Activate the shrine. If the Burning Butcher appears, kite him and burn him down.

  4. If no Butcher spawns, continue to the next shrine. Try Channeling and Artillery variants as well.

Pro Shrine Combo Tip

If you find a second shrine while another is still active, do not pick it up. Stay near it, wait for the first shrine's effect to wear off so stored elite and goblin souls release, then grab the second shrine to capture that fresh wave of mobs plus the new shrine effect. This chains huge density combos that work great for triggering Butcher spawns.

Method 3: Open World Dungeons

If you are not keen on Nightmare Dungeon sigils, running regular dungeons with shrines (particularly in Nahantu and Dry Steppes) still has a reduced chance of Burning Butcher triggers. The rates are lower than Nightmare Dungeons but the entry cost is zero.

With the solo Butcher routes clear, the real value comes from stacking both events into one farming session.

How To Farm Meat Or Treat with the Goblin Event Together

The two events were clearly designed to feed each other, so running them in parallel is far more rewarding than tackling them separately. Here is the optimal weekly plan.

1. Blast Infernal Hordes First (Double Duty)

Open your Infernal Hordes Compasses with the Total Chaos node active. One session gives you:

  • A chance at a Goblin Chaos Wave, which clears the entire March of the Goblins reputation board from rank 1 to rank 10 in a single wave.

  • Boosted Burning Butcher spawns from the Meat or Treat side.

  • Paragon XP, Obducite, and seasonal materials.

A single lucky run can finish half your event objectives in minutes.

2. Claim All Reputation Caches at Teisas

After maxing the Goblin board, head to Teisas and claim every reputation cache you have been saving. Thanks to the new 99 stack size, you can bank 60+ Prime Evil Splinters in a single visit. Use these for:

  • Lucky Coins crafting.

  • Hellfire Amulet runs.

  • Uber Boss summoning.

3. Treasure Breach Nightmare Dungeon Loop

Run Nightmare Dungeon Sigils with shrines using the full war plans setup (Goblin Fall, Altar of Avarice, Horadric Hunter, Greed is Good, Treasure Hoard). What you get per dungeon:

  • Burning Butcher triggers from Greed Shrines.

  • Treasure Goblin chains from Horadric Altars converted to Goblin Altars.

  • New Treasure Breach Sigils dropping from goblins inside, which lets you self sustain the loop almost indefinitely.

  • Both event reputations ticking up in parallel.

4. Open World Rotation

When your sigils run dry, hit the open world with these setup choices:

  • Disable cross network play under Options then Social. Fewer players means fewer stolen goblins and Butcher kills.

  • Hire Subo as your mercenary. His passive marks goblins and elites on your minimap and full map.

  • Stay mounted and constantly open your full map, since goblins appear at a greater range on the full map than the minimap overlay.

Top Routes:

  • Scosglen (Celestia and Akarat's Bulwark): Highest goblin density in testing.

  • Nahantu (Vessel of Hatred): Start at Samael, work south through the Five Hills, then east into the Restless Canopy. Alternatively, farm the Tirel camp or the southern area below Kurast Bazaar.

  • Ked Bardu (Dry Steppes): Best base game option without the expansion.

  • North Shore of Scosglen: Another strong non-expansion pick.

5. Helltides Mop Up

Jump into active Hell Tides for backup Treasure Goblin spawns and Hell Tide caches. Hell Tides reward reputation that feeds the archetype and seasonal cache cycle, which drops splinters frequently. The lag improvements in Patch 3.2.4 make this a smoother experience than earlier in the season.

More Tips

  • Infernal Butcher kills during the event can roll Mythic Uniques, so do not skip dungeon chests after Butcher fights.

  • Greed Shrines spawn goblins based on the number of mobs you kill while they are active. Activate first, kill second.

  • The Regalia of the Sacred Creed horse armor is new to many players, so prioritize reaching the reputation tier that drops it before the week ends.

  • Blizzard tends to hotfix player-friendly bugs fast, so if Goblin Caches are still dropping Seasonal runes on Eternal, crack them before the fix lands.

  • Combine Nemesis Bracers with Splinter of Hatred at rank 12 for an elite spawn storm that fuels both Butcher and Goblin triggers.

Meat or Treat may not be the loot explosion some players were hoping for from a dedicated Halloween event, but when stacked with the March of the Goblins and the new splinter changes, Season 15 has turned into one of the richest material farming weeks the game has produced. The clock stops on November 4, 2026, so grab your Nemesis Bracers, load up on compasses, and get hunting before the Infernal Butcher goes back to his usual haunts.
